Teaching Video Sample

Check out my video! I am very excited about it that I just learned how to edit. I think you will enjoy...

Here are some of the activities that are taking place in this part of the lesson plan shown in the video:

1.      Curator Role Play (20 mins)
Objective: SWBAT read about a historical site then write an outline about it. SWBAT speak their presentations for 1-2 mins about the historical site they were assigned.
  • Pre-activity: T will assign each S a building/historical site in Athens for which they have to play the pretend curator. Ss will be assigned one of the following sites: Court Street, Athena Theater, Athens County Courthouse, and First Presbyterian Church. T will give a sample demonstration of how Ss are to present their portion of the “tour” they will give to the class.
  • Activity:  Ss will read about the building which they were assigned and write down notes about it as they read.
o   Ss will then write a summary of the building which they will present to the class as they are acting as the curator.
o   Ss will prepare a 1-2 minute presentation about their historical site during this time.
o   All presentation should include an Introduction, a body with 2-3 main points with supporting details about their site, as well as a conclusion and Q&A session. T will write the requirements for their presentation on the board.
o   Ss should write an outline for their presentation that they will later turn in after their presentation is over.
  • Post-activity: Ss will give their presentation to the class about their historical site for 1-2 minutes as well as conduct the Q&A session. Ss will hand in their outlines when they are finished.
Evaluations: T will know that Ss have read about their historical site when they have completed writing an outline for their speech with 2-3 main points with supporting details. T will know that Ss have succeeded in giving their presentations when presenters are able to conduct a Q&A session about their site

  1. Vocab Crossword Puzzle (10 mins)
Objective:
  • Pre-activity: T will hand out the crossword puzzle sheet. T will explain how the crossword puzzle works, that you should write down one letter per box in the direction that is indicated (either up or down) with the correct number. Class will read the definition for #1 and write in the word as a class.
  • Activity: T will instruct Ss that they are able to work in groups or pairs (or alone) when figuring out the definitions for the crossword puzzle vocab. Ss will have up to 10 minutes to complete writing in the vocab words answers for the puzzle.
  • Post-activity: Ss will go over crossword puzzle answers as a class. T will correct any wrong answers that Ss have written.
Evaluation: T will know that Ss have understood the definitions of various vocab words when they are able to write the correct word in the blank space of the crossword sheets and spell it correctly.
